Veterinary Surgery

We offer a selection of surgical procedures for cats and dogs at our Scottsdale animal hospital. We use stringent surgical protocols and surgical techniques in our practice.

During each surgery, anesthesia will be administered by a dedicated nurse, and your pet will be continuously monitored using electronic patient monitoring equipment. We also provide pain management.

After surgery, post-operative monitoring and pain management become main priorities. Your vet will also provide detailed instructions for at-home care.

What to Expect from Vet Surgery

We pledge to keep you fully informed about why a surgical procedure is being recommended. We will also explain any post-operative care your pet will require at home. We have stringent surgical protocols in place at our hospital.

Surgical Procedures

Our vets at Scottsdale Ranch Animal Hospital routinely perform the following elective and non-elective surgeries:

  • Soft Tissue Surgery

We offer soft tissue surgical procedures for pets suffering from ear, nose and throat disorders.

These procedures are also available for oncological, cardiothoracic, urogenital, gastrointestinal, hepatic and skin disorders.

  • Ocular

Is your pet experiencing redness, pain, swelling or other symptoms in or around their eyes? An ocular surgery may be necessary to correct the problem.

Common ocular procedures for dogs and cats include ectropion surgery, entropion surgery, eyelid tumor removal, and exenteration of the orbit.

  • Mass Removal

Masses associated with the skin can develop in cats and dogs. These can also grow inside a body cavity and may become serious or life-threatening.

Mass removal surgery is a fairly common procedure for both cats and dogs.

  • Foreign Body

Sometimes and even despite our best efforts, our pets can get into things they shouldn't. As a consequence, they may ingest foreign objects or suffer an injury that results in an object getting stuck in the body.

In both of these cases, we can perform foreign body surgery to remove the object.

  • Wounds

When tissue has been torn, burnt, cut, broken or otherwise damaged, wounds can occur.

It's imperative that these wounds be cleaned, disinfected and appropriately cared for and repaired by a qualified veterinarian as soon as possible, to keep infection and disease from occurring.

  • Spaying & Neutering

When a dog or cat is spayed or neutered, we surgically sterilize them to prevent disease and provide them with an extended life expectancy.

  • Dental Surgery

Our veterinarians perform dental surgeries for dogs and cats. These surgeries may range from tooth extractions to gum disease treatment and jaw fracture repairs.

The Surgery Process

We understand that the prospect of bringing your pet in for surgery can be intimidating. Please rest assured that we only recommend surgery when it's in the best interests of your furry best friend.

We will confirm that you fully understand why the surgery is being recommended, and that you are comfortable making the choice to move ahead.

Surgical protocols at our clinic include:

Pre-surgical assessments. Specifics of the procedure will be confirmed and explained. We will also perform a complete physical examination of your pet, and ensure blood tests have been completed and reviewed by the vet to determine whether your pet faces any risk of complications related to anesthesia.

Dedicated surgical suites. Surgeries are performed in our dedicated surgical suite. This room is kept completely sterile to prevent infection or cross-contamination.

Surgical attire. Our staff wear disposable masks and caps at all times when in the surgical suite. Anyone involved in the procedure itself will also put on single-use gloves and sterile gowns.

Sterile packs and equipment. Before each surgery, surgical equipment and instruments are carefully cleaned, sterilized and wrapped before each surgery.
